Early Poul Henningsen Artichoke lamp

An early model of the iconic Artichoke pendant Ø 60 cm designed by Poul Henningsen and produced by Louis Poulsen in Denmark ca. 1960. Designed by Poul Henningsen 1957-1959 for Langelinie Pavillonen in Copenhagen, the PH Artichoke is a modern classic. Its original name in Danish was PH Kogle, which translates as conifer cone. The Artichoke has 12 arches with 72 overlying leaves, placed so that you can't see the bulb, which gives out a soft, steady light. The lamp is so heavy that it needs a steel cable. This early version is not suspended with steel cables on the outside but has a central suspension mount with internal wire. The lamp is in an perfect condition, preserving a beautiful patina. It looks incredible, like it was produced yesterday. It's marked with an early manufacturers label. Complete with chromed aluminium socket cover, central suspension, white fabric flex and canopy.
