Beautiful GS-195 daybed sofa designed by Gianni Songia for Sormani, Italy, 1963. Very elegant and sculptural rosewood frame with a cognac leather upholstery. The back rest can be adjusted in two positions to use as a sofa or daybed and is working properly. The back rest creates an open feel and look. The fully restored rosewood frame is in very good condition and has a beautiful wood grain. The soft original cognac leather cushions on the seat and backrest all unzip and can be removed. Great quality detailed stitching all around. An iconic Mid Century piece in excellent condition.

Furniture maker Sormani, established in 1961 in Arosio, Italy, has worked with famous designers such as Gio Ponti, Gianni Songia, Carlo De Carli, Cesare Casati, Emanuele Ponzio, Achilli-Brigidini-Canella, Joe Colombo and Claudio Salocchi. The company focused on production of avant-garde designs, as well as of woodwork of the highest quality.
In 1971 the company was awarded the Mercurio d’Oro . Sormani furniture is featured in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Victoria & Albert Museum in London, Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Paris and the Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto, Japan.
