Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel Ring sofa, Denmark 1958

Beautiful Ring sofa designed by Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel in 1958 and manufactured in the 1980s by Fredericia Møbel Denmark. The Ring chair is a classic Ditzel design. Circular in form, the arms and back are one piece which wraps around the sitter. The legs connect the back to the floating seat in a very elegant way. The Ring chair was presented at the “Købestævnet” exhibition in 1958.
In the 1980s Nanna Ditzel became closely connected with Fredericia Møbler. This rare sofa was produced in this period for only a short time and is no longer in production. It is made of stained beech wood and upholstered with a soft natural leather with a beautiful patina. Marked with manufacturers label. In very good condition.

Nanna Ditzel was one of most renowned Danish designers, and throughout her life she was awarded numerous prizes. Born in Copenhagen, she trained as a cabinetmaker at the Royal Academy’s furniture school and graduated in 1943. Ditzel’s early work adhered to the classic Danish modernist tenets of simplicity, comfort and quality, and her armchairs, with their softly curved backrests are much in the spirit of Hans Wegner. Ditzel’s signature piece of that time is the Ring chair.
