Early edition egg chair by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen, Denmark, 1966. The chair, model 3316, better known as egg chair retains the original black leather which has a lovely patina from age and use.
The chair is marked with manufacturers label and dated 01-66. A beautiful example of Jacobsen’s iconic modern wingback chair originally designed in 1958 for the SAS hotel in Copenhagen. This early chair represents Jacobsen’s true vision for the design.
Other than the blue he specified for the interior of the SAS, he only wanted the egg chair to be upholstered in either black or natural ox hide. Unlike contemporary production, the one-piece cast aluminum base has the elegant fluted column unifying the aesthetic of the base. The chair is stitched by hand. In very good condition with minor wear consistent with age and use.
