Berlin Daybed by Bruno Mathsson, Sweden, 1957

A rare birchwood Berlin daybed designed by Bruno Mathsson, Sweden 1957. This iconic Scandinavian daybed is known as the Berlin daybed, since it was first shown in 1957 at the International Building Exhibition in Berlin. This is for the elegant sleek model, with the mattress on top of the bed. Laminated and bent beech, boucle wool.
The mattress fixed to the bed and kept at its place by buttons and perforations in the wooden bed. The bed frame is slightly elevated at the headboard and features skillfully bent tapered legs and raised edges. The daybed has its original finish and is signed “Bruno Mathsson design Made in Sweden”, which indicates an early edition, produced before the Swedish firm Karl Mathsson put the daybed into production in 1964.
No longer in production. The mattress has recently been upholstered with a beautiful ivory bouclé wool, we added the cushion. In perfect condition.
