Sonja Wasseur brutalist lounge chairs, The Netherlands 1970

An amazing pair of Brutalist reclining chairs designed by Dutch designer Sonja Wasseur, Amsterdam 1970. The chairs have four different seating positions that can be adjusted by the user. Also the height of the back can be adjusted to create the ultimate seating comfort. These chairs were made to last with a solid dark stained oak frame, thick saddle leather, brown leather cushions, brown canvas and chromed tubular metal. Sonja Wasseur worked from her small atelier or gallery near Amsterdam, where all chairs were manufactured and sold. The chairs show some small differences in production because they date from different editions. Nevertheless they still make a great pair. One has a canvas sling seat beneath the pillow, which is covered with leather on the other one. This leather cover has been repaired in the past, but this is not visible since the seating cushion covers the repair. Also there are slight differences in the measurements of the frames. One is two cm larger than the other. Besides the repair on one of the chairs, both chairs remain in good vintage condition with some marks consistent with age and use.
